Second brain?
I found this idea of the second brain. That title intrigued me. But it's just a note taking system. I am being facetious because it's like saying a wagon wheel is just a wheel. It's round, it's shaped like a wheel, it rolls. BUT. And that but is precisely why this idea is wonderful to me.
I take notes. My books are highlighted, underlined, starred and written in. I have notes with page numbers on the blank pages in the back, sometimes on the front too if the book is awesome. I have (and had) notebooks full of notes. I have lost books with notes in them. I replaced the books but I cannot replace those first insights, the aha!, the wonder of the new idea.
The kindle was incomplete because it seemed like you could highlight or note things, then what?
I know I wrote an article on a subject, or a few chapters of a book, or noted a poem or quote that perfectly fits a situation. I cannot find it.
The second brain is a method of using note taking systems. It uses it in such a way as to enhance your work, your play, whatever tasks you have before you. It does this in part by being searchable....find the words, find the quotes, find the task list.
It can enhance your reading if you take notes like I do, you can transfer notes from your kindle, you can enter your written notes (I know, some of you would never consider this, but I love the idea of having all of my notes entered where I can find them). I have been entertaining the idea of reviewing books. I do short ones here already. Any time you recommend a book, a movie, a new series, you are doing a review
As a student, you can have blocks or chunks of work put together, and use the blocks to write your papers. As a writer, you can also chunk your work, using it as building blocks for posts, for articles, for books, for scripts.
I listened to YouTube yesterday, read a bit, took a few notes (HA). After sleeping on this idea, it won't stop. My head is spinning like that wheel. There are multiple note taking apps out in the world.
I have had Evernote for years. I used it as a list making tool. Not a bad use, but it's like using a computer to only play games. It can enhance my work so much more. "Evernote is a powerful tool that can help executives, entrepreneurs and creative people capture and arrange their ideas. All you have to do is use it. — Forbes." From the Evernote webpage. Using it is my new challenge. I do want to compare it with Notion also.
At home I can save my recipes (searchable!), do schedules, have lists and next steps. For my writing, I can have my ideas, my articles that are started, and that are finished. I could note where they have been published.
For projects, this is a never ending usefulness. I am finding a new place to live, moving 40 miles, running an EBay business, packing my household, writing, and living each day. My notes are in a couple of notebooks, my phone list, and a to do list that I have been rewriting daily.
I need more information and will review what I find. Food for thought.
